Controlling hazard is a way of minimizing and eliminating hazards in the workplace. People who work in a hazardous workplace, especially at construction site must wear proper construction safety gear. It must cover the whole body, from head to toe and the sensitive part of our body like eye. As we know, hazards are unexpected danger that surrounds us. To avoid and lessen all the hazards, we need to know the right attitude that an employee has.
As an individual, you are responsible to yourself regarding about your safety. As a member of the society, knowing the right way of getting safety is what you need to do. No one can push you to be safe, but as a human, you want to protect yourself from risk.
From the top management to the lower member of the company needs to know the right way how to communicate to the hazards and safety. To build an effective safety program the management should be:
1. Familiarity with required requirements and standards of government rules and regulations.2. Able to identify different kind of hazards.
3. Familiar with different safety equipments in the market that protects specific hazards.
4. Know the right procedures of maintaining the equipments.
5. Build an effective method on how wears safety clothes and safety gears are worn by the employees.
6. Know all the MSDS that show requirements using personal protective equipment against the hazards of material and chemical.
In choosing safety gear, the standards or quality of the equipment must be first to consider. Don’t take a wrong choice, it can bring you down. Also in choosing personal protective it must be fitted and comfortable in the user. Safety goggles, hearing protection, respirator, gloves and shoes must be fit, as a user you don’t want to wear that is not bringing comfort to you.
PPE is classified into six; each of them has their own ability, function and usage. The head protection, eye and face protection, hearing protection, respiratory gears, arm, hands, and fingers and feet and leg protection are the gears and protection for an employee, be familiar, especially use a proper gears needed on the job, it can be used for a lifetime.
